La Bastida de les Alcusses

Presentation

The Museum of Prehistory of Valencia organizes research projects, dissemination programmes and educational activities.

The archaeological site of La Bastida de les Alcusses houses the remains of a fortified settlement dating from the fourth century BC. It is located at the southwestern end of the Serra Grossa, in Moixent, on a hill above the Pla de les Alcusses.

Since 1928, a comprehensive management project has been underway at the site, which includes research, the adaptation of the site for visitors, and a programme of information and educational activities.

Today, the site can be visited all year round. There is a visitor reception centre, a free guide service and self-guided itineraries with explanatory panels, educational materials, and tactile models.

A wooded area with pine trees and low Mediterranean scrub occupies the immediate surroundings. Further on, on the plain, the landscape is marked by the rhythm of the local agriculture, especially the production of the area’s famous wines.
