The Roman weight system was based on the pound of 327,45 grams which was divided into 12 ounces. To measure distances or lengths Romans used the mile (1480 meters), consisting of 1,000 steps. Among Roman capacity measurements the most important one was the sextarius, equivalent to 0.546 liters.
